Lady Gaga And Mother Cynthia To Launch Anti-Bulling Foundation
Lady Gaga has
always been hugely supportive of anti-bullying campaigns and has spoken openly
about her strong beliefs in acceptance. Only last month Gaga travelled to the White House to discuss the importance of anti-bullying
measures with President Barack Obama.
Now the lady herself is setting up her own
anti-bulling foundation called the Born This Way Foundation.
Gaga has joined
forces with her mother Cynthia Germanotta and has set up the organisation with
the aim to help young people with self-esteem issues, and to out an end to intolerance.
In an official
statement Cynthia said:
“My daughter's foundation was born out of her
passion to create a better world where people are kinder and nicer to one
another and are accepted for who they are, regardless of how different they may
be,”
She added:
“She has
experienced many of the struggles that our youth encounter today, and
identifies with the lasting effects they can have without proper support.
Together, we look forward to creating a new movement that will engage and
empower youth and accept them as valuable members of our society.”
The Born This
Way Foundation will launch at a gala held at Harvard University's Sanders
Theater on February 29th. At the gala, Gaga will be joined by the organisation's
partners, Harvard's Berkman Centre for Internet and Society, the MacArthur Foundation
and the California Endowment.
Gaga’s ultimate goal is to eventually make bullying a hate crime in America.
Isn’t it nice when you see celebrities put their fame to
good use.
