Simon Cowell Saves the Day - Flies BGT Crew Member to Child's Birth in Private Jet

Simon Cowell came to the rescue at the weekend, reuniting one of his Britain’s Got Talent crew members with his pregnant girlfriend Lisa Stewart when she went into labour at the opposite end of the country.

John Hagenstede was working at the Edinburgh auditions when he got the call to say that his partner had gone into labour at home in Surrey. On hearing the news, Cowell offered a spot on his private jet to the father-to-be, enabling him to be there for the birth of his first child.

Hagenstede, 44, told the Telegraph: “Lisa wasn’t due for another nine days, so I was shocked to get the call and desperately wanted to get back to Surrey to be with her.

“We looked up every possible option of getting me home and I was devastated when I realised the only option was waiting and getting a flight in the morning. I knew I would miss the birth of my first child.

“Simon, David and Alesha were so brilliant. They knew how important it was to me and not only did they let me share their private jet, they also gave me drinks on the flight, relaxed me and were generally lovely and supportive.”

But Simon’s generosity did not end there. The music mogul arranged for a car to pick up John and drive him straight to East Surrey hospital where his girlfriend was. The new dad has since revealed that he arrived just in time to see his son Jude enter the world:

“I got there with just moments to spare. If I’d have got there 10 minutes later I’d have missed the birth of my son. I am so grateful to Simon. Without him there was no way I’d have been there for that precious moment.”

Simon Cowell was delighted to be of use, telling the Metro: “We were almost as excited as he was. I was delighted to do it and am glad that we managed to get John there on time.”
