Blur Confirmed to Headline Olympic Closing Ceremony Concert in Hyde Park
Blur have announced that they will be headlining a special
show in Hyde Park this summer to mark the end of the London Olympics.
A statement on the band’s Facebook page read: “We’re rowing
in.. going for gold.. grabbing the baton.. for the high jump.. No, hang on, is
that right? Fact is, Blur have accepted the invite to headline the Olympics’
Closing Ceremony Celebration Concert in Hyde Park on 12th August.”
Also appearing on the bill are The Specials and New Order in
The Best of British concert. The gig
is one of many events being organised to celebrate the 2012 Olympic Games.
Fans will need to pre-register at a special website from
Friday 24 February if they want to be eligible for tickets.
The news of the gig will be a welcome surprise to Blur fans,
after band member Alex James hinted in an article for The Sun that the gang would be hanging their hats for good after an
appearance at tonight’s Brit Awards. The band will be presented with the
Outstanding Contribution to Music award, and it is rumoured that they will also
entertain guests with an 11-minute set.
How exciting!
