ITV release a statement apologising for cutting off Adele during her acceptance speech

There were some much deserved winners at last night’s Brit Awards, however all people are talking about today is the moment Adele was cut off her during her acceptance speech.

What should have been a very important and proud moment for the singer was overshadowed by her being cut-off mid-speech.

If you didn’t see it, Adele went up to collect her award for Best British Album, and to a standing ovation, she started her acceptance speech. Her speech was soon rudely interrupted when an embarrassed host, James Corden, was ordered to tell Adele to cut it short due to the show over-running. In response an annoyed Adele raised her middle finger to the camera.

ITV have since released a statement apologising for cutting the singer off during her important moment.

A spokesperson for the television network said that they had no choice but to ask host James Corden to cut Adele’s speech short because they were ‘over-running’.

The Brit Awards published an official TV statement on their Twitter page, saying:

"Evening all… We would like to say a few words about Adele's British Album acceptance speech tonight. "We regret this happened and we send deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short tonight due to the live show over-running... We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning her incredible award... it tops off what's been an incredible year for her."

The ITV statement read:

"The Brits is a live event, sadly the programme was over-running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption."

Host James Cordon said after the awards ceremony:

"I just feel bad about having to cut Adele off. I really don't understand quite why I was made to, but it's not a very nice way to end. I was having the best night of my life but then I had to cut Adele off before she had a chance to say thank you - she's the biggest star in the world."

After the show Adele explained why she made the rude hand gesture. She said:

"That was for the suits at the Brit Awards, not my fans. I'm sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me."

Adele also picked up the award for Best British Female.

Other winners included Ed Sheeran for British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act, Coldplay for British Group and One Direction for British Single.
